Questlove is known for bringing together all different kinds of people- look at his food salons. We’re still looking for an invite by the way, if anyone has the hookup. He’s also made the crossover into the food world himself with his book Something to Food About.
Recently, Anthony Bourdain interviewed him for Urban Outfitters and they talked about where music and food intersect, particularly in mindset. He cited a story about baker Dominique Ansel: “during the height of Cronut mania, I know someone made a gargantuan offer to Dominique Ansel to show us the cooking method — like that special oven he uses — in order to mass-produce it. And his response was so underground rap to me. It made me feel like I was Diddy or something.”
It’s worth noting that neither Bourdain nor Questlove thinks the Cronut is the best thing Ansel does. They’re both partial to the DKA.
Questlove also expressed his grievances with Bourdain, namely that the TV host never sends food to The Tonight Show. “Martha Stewart is always sending treats, [David] Chang is always sending treats.” Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, we learn Questlove’s feelings on Cap’n Crunch.
